I have been working as the Program Manager of Social Tagging at Microsoft for the past year. We have delivered a web site and internal API that allows you to take URI's into the general pool. You can navigate by the top 100 tags alone or in combination with each other. We have been received fairly well, we are far cry from other social tagging sites, but we are evolving. The top things to improve.
- The global tag cloud need to show related tags. On the first view it should show the top 100 tags, once you select one or more tags, the next tag cloud should only show the related tags. By related I am referring to the for the collection that is associated with the returned collection. So you can combine multiple tags and nearly always end up with a result.
- Support for group tagging: users can sign in as an individual and tag on behalf of a group
- Enable an ability to tag for:group and/or for:user.
- Tag List that allows for sorting all tags by date created, date last used, title, and weight. Paging enabled so you can navigate over the tag items corpus.
- Tag feed (RSS, and ATOM)
